Switch N' Play (SNP) is a Brooklyn-born, New York-based drag alliance committed to entertaining its audiences with an eclectic repertoire of dance and theatrical numbers. Queer in every sense of the word, SNP spans the gender spectrum in life and on stage. Established in January 2006, SNP hopes to enliven the drag community of New York by performing with a diverse group of queer performance artists: drag kings and queens, burlesque performers, poets, musicians, dancers and visual artists.
We were awarded 2008 Performer of the Year by the Heritage of Pride and voted Go Magazine's Readers Choice Best Drag Kings & Best Lounge Act of 2008.

Ixion's "Down & Dirty Lounge" began at the Coney Island Mermaid parade of 1999. Pianist Albert Garzon and blues vocalist Lex Grey did something unheard of at that time: they created a cabaret incorporating forgotten hits of the teens, 20's and 30's with dirty-sexy Jokes. Today the show has grown into a Two-Act, live-music burlesque starring:
Gal Friday (Miss Coney Island), Fleur de Lys, Madame Hari, Jasmine Blushes and Venus Velour.
Albert's ragtime/blues piano and Lex Grey's sultry voice are the perfect backdrop for authentic old-school burlesque. This show is Down and Dirty, with more than a touch of class!! |

A Day On The Boardwalk, A Night At The Freak Show
The 1930s. It is the Golden Age of Coney Island. The amusements of
Steeplechase and Luna Park overlook beaches filled with sun-dappled bathers.
Excitement-seekers had their choice of acres of rides and attractions: The
Wonder Wheel, The Cyclone, The Thunderbolt, The Tornado, The Pavilion of
Fun, The Insanitarium. And you couldn't toss a dwarf without hitting a
ten-in-one, whether The Coney Side Show, The World Circus Sideshow, or The
Palace of Wonders Freak Show. It is also the Golden Age of Burlesque, as
Gypsy Rose Lee, Sherry Britton, and Sally Rand toured stages across the
country and around the world. And finally, it is the Golden Age of Movie
Comedy: The Marx Brothers ruled the Silver Screen, releasing eight classic
movies during the decade.
But these three Golden Ages never came together in one place... until now.
On Friday, August 21, 2009 at 10pm, "The Pinch Brothers (also sisters)" spend A DAY ON THE BOARDWALK, A NIGHT AT THE SIDESHOW when Pinchbottom
Burlesque presents a brand-new homage to the Marx Brothers created
explicitly for Sideshows By The Seashore at Coney Island.
When Hugo J. Porkenbush, house doctor to the Coney Island Sideshow,
accidentally incapacitates all the performers, he has to find replacement
acts -- and fast! So he recruits a pair of Boardwalk grifters (Nasto& Tiggo) to shanghai "volunteers" for the show. But when, instead of hapless
victims, they abduct a bevy of burlesque performers from the Mermaid Parade,
the show goes on... a lot further than anyone expected!

Once upon a time an unsuspecting academic researching a vital 21st century cultural phenomenon on gets swept away by her studies and literally lands in a fantasy land called Phantasmagoria. In Phantasmagoria, all of the beauties are monsters and all of the monsters are beauties. Though monster/beauty produces conceptual richness, it also creates curatorial nightmares as Dr. Lucky and Darlinda Just Darlinda attempt, in vain, to cast the show. A show within in a show, monster/beauty shows the limitations of a binary structure when dealing with a post-modern cultural concept. Along the way, they meet some of the most compelling beautiful monsters and monstrous beauties in the new burlesque scene including Bambi the Bambi the Mermaid, Devilicia, Little Brooklyn and Rose Wood. These monster/beauties teach our unsuspecting academic a few things about theory as they bring to life her essay entitled, "'It is the Ugly that is so Beautiful': Performing the Monster/Beauty Continuum in Neo Burlesque."
