NOISEFEST!
SUNDAY, MARCH 28, 1PM - 4PM, FREE!
THE BROOKLYN EXPRESS DRUMLINE will be playing between 1 pm and 4 pm sometimes marching in formation up and down West 12th Street and sometimes playing within our building itself, on the sideshow stage, up in the museum, even playing in the stairwell! The Brooklyn Express Drumline has been in existence since June 2007.one of the premier percussion youth Comprised entirely of teens aged 14-20, and directed by Karl Menard (age 20), the group serves as an outlet that inspires, enhances creativity, fosters leadership, and develops a drive to succeed, building a positive barrier against street violence and crime.
The artist Hong Kai Wang will play recordings picked up from microphones that were placed on the body of mythical rides in Astroland Amusement Park. The artist was inspired to use sound to capture the sentiment of summer fun as she was working on a documentary about Coney Island in 2007, which was rumored to be the amusement park’s last season. Wang’s recordings remind of the fragility of youth, the inevitable passing of time, and our desire to hold onto the fleeting past. This installation will evoke the range of emotions conjured at Coney Island, featuring the playful Carousel, Frog Hopper and the dizzying Top Spin.
Noisefest will be featuring the installation, "Noise Carnival" by Ranjit Bhatnagar and Nick Yulman in the giftshop.
