MISS CHERRY DELIGHT & THE BIG TENT JAZZ BAND!

This is a Coney Island first that shouldn‘t be missed; a revival of an old time musical saloon act from the heyday of Coney Island served up with classic burlesque and a traditional live jazz band !! Now that is real entertainment Coney Island style!

The Big Tent Jazz Band will accompany Miss Delight in high style led by Jeff “Potatoes Browning” Weinman on ragtime/stride piano. Lucy Rae Weinman will blow her hot jazz trumpet. Jack Harkavy of The Red Onion Band and Harkavy’s Hellcats fame will be on tuba, and clarinet virtuoso Will Anderson will offer his incredible solos.

If that’s not enough…..there’s going to be plenty of classic burlesque in the show with Coney Island’s amazing and talented Lefty Lucy, Lily Stitches. and It’s A Little Stormy. Miss Cherry Delight may even get scanty if she can catch her breath!

Featuring: Jenny C'est Quoi, Lefty Lucy, Magdalena Fox, Rosey La Rouge, Victoria Privates and your host Schaffer the Darklord!

Directed by Ishiro Honda , 1961. Mothra, a favorite of all of the Japanese monsters, inhabits the island of Beiru. When the island, used for atomic tests, is found to be amazingly free of radiation an expedition of the island reveals some very odd sites, including a pair of women who are only a foot tall. When the women are taken by the explorers, and exploited in a vaudeville show, Mothra invades Tokyo to get them back wreaking havoc on all who get in her way. Starring: Frankie Sakai, Hiroshi Koizumi, Kyoko Kagawa, Ken Uehara, Emi Ito. Sony; Rated G; 88 minutes

The Life and Work of Albert Grass – founder of the Coney Island Amateur Psychoanalytic Society

To mark the end of the exhibition “Dreamland – The Coney Island Amateur Psychoanalytic Society and its Circle 1926 – 1972”, Zoe Beloff will give a short talk on the Society’s founder, Albert Grass. For the first time she will present her most recent discovery, “The Adventures of a Dreamer by Albert Grass”, a journal in which he explores his dreams using the language of the comic book. She will discuss the influence of both Freud and Marx on his understanding of the unconscious.

A facsimile of the journal will be published by Christine Burgin in September.

Following the talk, join us for the closing party!
