In one of the most inspiring and historical sites of entertainment in New York City, nightlife starlettes Sequinette and Bambi the Mermaid present the first edition of the Annual Coney Island Sweetheart pet pageant.

Inviting our smaller, cuter, and furrier friends to join us in the spotlight, this family oriented event will bring New York's cutest, most beloved and well-dressed creatures great and small under one roof. The pageant is open to all pets - dogs, cats, birds, fish, turtles, snakes, rodents and any other creature that would enjoy a day at the sideshow. Audience members are strongly encouraged, but not required to bring their pets.

All pets in costume will be eligible to enter the costume contest! A fantastic show will be put on by the contestants and members of the Coney Island Sideshow at this kid-friendly day-time event at the beach. Raffle tickets with fantastic prizes will be sold to raise money for BARC animal shelter. Proceeds go to BARC and Coney Island USA. For further info please email, sequinette(at)gmail.com

Their sideshow friends are donating their time & skill as part of an ongoing effort to help raise funds for their medical bills. 3 different circus/sideshows join together this night, plus special guests TBA. *All proceeds go to the Disgraceland fund set up for their medical bills.* Suggested donation is $10. The 1930s. It is the Golden Age of Coney Island. The amusements of Steeplechase and Luna Park overlook beaches filled with sun-dappled bathers. Excitement-seekers have their choice of acres of rides and attractions: The Wonder Wheel, The Cyclone, The Thunderbolt, The Tornado, The Pavilion of Fun, The Insanitarium. And you can't toss a dwarf without hitting a ten-in-one, whether The Coney Side Show, The World Circus Sideshow, or The Palace of Wonders Freak Show. It is also the Golden Age of Burlesque, as Gypsy Rose Lee, Sherry Britton, and Sally Rand toured stages across the country and around the world. And finally, it is the Golden Age of Movie Comedy: The Marx Brothers rule the Silver Screen, releasing eight classic movies during the decade.

But these three Golden Ages never came together in one place... until now. On Friday, August 13, 2010 at 10pm, "The Pinch Brothers (also sisters)" spend A DAY ON THE BOARDWALK, A NIGHT AT THE SIDESHOW when Pinchbottom Burlesque presents a rare repeat performance of last summer's sold-out homage to the Marx Brothers, created explicitly for Sideshows By The Seashore at Coney Island.

When Hugo J. Porkenbush, house doctor to the Coney Island Sideshow, accidentally incapacitates all the performers, he has to find replacement acts -- and fast! So he recruits a pair of Boardwalk grifters (Nasto& Tiggo) to shanghai "volunteers" for the show. But when, instead of hapless victims, they abduct a bevy of burlesque performers from the Mermaid Parade, the show goes on... a lot further than anyone expected!

Starring: NASTY CANASTA, JONNY PORKPIE, and TIGGER! as THE PINCH BROTHERS, plus ALBERT CADABRA, DONNY VOMIT, GAL FRIDAY, JULIE ATLAS MUZ, LITTLE BROOKLYN.

THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS

Directed by Eugene Lourie, 1953. As a result of an arctic nuclear test, a carnivorous dinosaur thaws out and starts making its way down the east coast of North America. Professor Tom Nesbitt, only witness to the beast's existence, is not believed, even when he identifies it as a "rhedosaurus" to paleontologist Thurgood Elson. All doubts disappear, however, when Elson is swallowed whole during an oceanic bathysphere excursion to search for the creature. Soon thereafter the rhedosaurus emerges from the sea and lays waste to Manhattan Island until Nesbitt comes up with a plan to try to stop the seemingly indestructible beast. EVAN MICHELSON - THE CULTURE OF CURIOSITY

Evan Michelson is an inveterate collector and museum aficionado. She has spent a lifetime obsessing over specimens, lurking in crypts, touring necropoli and gathering information on all things fading from the collective memory. For about two decades Evan was in and out of various aggressively confrontational/decadent bands.

She is currently co-owner of Obscura Antiques and Oddities, and Scholar-in-Residence at the Morbid Anatomy Library. She lives in Victorian excess with her husband, a few pets, and many esoteric and uncanny objects.

Postcards from Paradise: Writings and Images from Dreamland, Luna Park and Steeplechase Parks, an exhibition of never-before seen postcards from the Coney Island Museum Collection, featuring an introduction by former first lady, Barbara Bush.  For over a century, individuals have been sending each other images and text through the mail.

Postcards are the original Instant Messages, and in the early 20th century, thousands were mailed from Coney Island each day, telling stories and painting word-pictures that were carried by the US Postal Service to destinations all over the world.  Curated by Martha Wilson and Aaron Beebe, this exhibition is not affiliated in any way with the government of the United States, the US Postal Service, or any other State-Sponsored organization or Agency.
