I guess you haven't been following the saga of this carousel in recent years, but we all thank you for filling us in on the history of this Carmel carousel prior to its 1930's arrival on Surf Avenue in Coney Island.  The B&B was the last surviving classic hand-carved wooden carousel at Coney.

Jim McCullough had co-owned the carousel with Mike Saltzstein for decades.  When Mike died on the 4th of July in 2001, Jim continued to operate the carousel for several more seasons but the costs involved plus the estate taxes that had to be paid over Mike's death ultimately forced him to consign the ride to the Guernsey's auction block in 2005.  But after month's of negotiations, theBloomberg administration for the City of NY purchased the carousel for just under $2 million.  The carousel is presently awaiting restoration, and plans call for it to be placed on the boardwalk next to the Parachute Jump as part of a new showcase called Steeplechase Plaza.

To insert pictures into your postings here, first type or paste the complete URL for each picture into the Message window, one line at a time.

Then use your mouse to highlight each web address, and click the little icon above the window that looks like a picture in a frame.  The board will automatically append the proper YABBC tags surrounding the URL and when your message is posted, will display the picture.   Note the tag that the board adds on when you click that icon.  You can also type it in manually for each picture.  I just cannnot literally type it out for you in this advice because the board will interpret those tags as an actual picture and try to display something that does not exist.

Looking forward to seeing what you have.  It's too bad, after Circus World folded, the Illions carousel was bought by Arthur Imperatore of the NY Waterway ferry line, who had plans to set it up in Lincoln Harbor on the Weehawken NJ waterfront.  But there were problems (I don't recall what they were) and the horses were eventually all sold off, leaving only the frame intact.

John...any photos you want to display here have to already be hosted on the Internet on a separate web site, either your own or on a "public" photo sharing site like flickr.com  ,  webshots.com , photobucket.com  etc.

Once you have your photos on a web site, you then have to take each photo's address that starts with http:// and wrap the board tags around it as I explained above.

Hi all.  Just joined the website.  I was browsing yesterday looking for information on a horse I bought years ago.  The horse came from Bertrand's Island.  It was purchased at the time of Bertrand Island's closing by a man for his wife who was a carousel horse collector.

I saw reference and a picture of this horse on the boards; I think the poster's name was TRabbit...I know something is missing, but if you are out there, I'd love to know anything you can tell me about my horse.

Which horse, the white Illions one?  All I know is what the late Joe DeLorenzo told me, that the horse was once part of a small "steeplechase"-type ride that used to run beneath the Wiildcat roller coaster in Bertrand Island.
