Coney Island Maybe show opens Nov 8 in Soho

CONEY ISLAND MAYBE at the Puffin Room November 8-December 14

Art and photography exhibit, sideshow and theatre performance opens the weekend of Nov 8-9 at the Puffin Room, 435 Broome St, between Broadway and Crosby, in SoHo.

The show includes

Fine art by Africasso, CIUSA artist in residence Marie Roberts, and Coney Island Hysterical Society founders Richard Eagan and Philomena Marano, and Reginald Marsh,among many others.

An exhibition of Coney Island photos by Charles Denson

Over 30 artists and photographers are represented in the show.

Opening reception, Saturday, November 8, 6-9 pm, Free

Special event on Sunday, November 9, at 4pm Charles Denson will record Coney Island Memories for the Coney Island History Project’s oral history archive. Plus Michael Schwartz’s  performance piece The Freak and and Hey Jerry

Many other events including cabaret, CIUSA sideshow etc scheduled during the show’s Nov 8-Dec 14 run. Gallery Hours, Thursday-Sunday, 12-6pm

The opening was packed with Coney Island artists and friends, SoHo types, mermaids serving wine and dancing...The NY Times just posted a slide show with some photos in the exhibition

The gallery also made up postcards for visitors to write out and mail back to them at the "Save Coney Island Society"

The message says:  
Dear Speaker Quinn,
I urge you to prevent the proposed change change of Coney Island's C-7 amusement zoning that will allow for condo development and sterile shopping malls.

Coney Island is beloved by millions of New Yorkers.  Your focus should be on attracting new amusements and compatible development
