Eviction?  Sitt style??
Dec 21st, 2008, 2:26pm

Noticed this today at West 12th and Surf, notice the blue painted plywood covering up the signs on the building?

And here are the cut off locks laying on the sidewalk.

correct me if I am wrong, but isnt changing the locks illegal to do? Dont you need to go to court and have a sheriff's notice posted on the entrance first??

This is should also be a public warning, dont go near this building... as we all know how shi**ie Sitties crappy plywood fences seem to fall down all the time.

He probably couldn't pay the triple rent. Most people can't afford that amount of money!!!!!!!!  I feel bad for that man. He used to be open in any kind of weather.Even if there were no people there,he would be open!!!!!! Sad

the clipped locks are very telling...great detective work!  If the pina colada stand is evicted they will be greatly missed, especially on the day of the Mermaid Parade.  How many years have they been there anyway?  What about the locks on balloon dart. I hope they are intact?

I checked flickr for photos from the summer.  Looks like blue wood was already there with signs over it. Here's a  photo of the stands in August:

hey I just realized from looking at the larger version of the photo (it's not my pic) the little sign on the stand says "for rent" and this was taken on Aug 4. does anybody know what's the story with them?

all the locks, for both places were cut off and laying on the ground. Never noticed the plywood up there.  I think I am going to stand clear of that building.  Dont want a piece of plywood killing me by landing on my head Smiley

Notice the yellow paint in both photos.

Definitly weird here.  I just looked at the photo from the summer showing it open, and the locks on the roll down fences are not the same ones laying on the sidewalk in mine.

OH NO Angry  the guy who runs the balloon stand is an icon and so is his stand.. Charlie had a great photo of him in the puffin room show and here's another one by "brainware3000" on flickr:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/brainware3000/2840206288/

The reporters really should be looking into this as well as the stories about Thor's tripling of rents and the Boardwalk businesses not having leases.  Why doesn't somebody just call Stefan Friedman and ask him to confirm or deny?  Oh, I forgot, it's Christmas week and everyone's leaving town.  And Stefan Friedman's busy being the spokesman for Caroline Kennedy now!  Very busy preparing her q & As for the press. Does Thor even have spokesman anymore?  Probably doesn't need one, it's been so quiet. Sitt could care less anymore. He's brutalizing Coney Island

Charlie's photo is in this NY Times slide show.  I just want people to see the guy's face and put a face to this story. he's an oldtimer and we'll miss him bigtime if he's not able to come back.  The pic is of his basketball joint though, not the dart game.

yes, you are 100% right Bruce, it is eviction Sitt style...

I was just informed that on Friday Thor's people, accompanied by uniformed security guards, cut  the locks off all the concessions including Jimmy's, Slims, etc. and  put new locks on. they told Slim's worker (the shooting gallery on Stillwell, the only game open) and the souvenir stand that they were "trespassing" and threw them all out. It was an ugly scene.

Like my original post said, I dont think they can do that.  It will be a nice court case now.

The legal way to do it.

When CIUSA took over their building.  They had a Marshals (or sheriffs letter?) posted on one of the former concessionaires saying they now legally took control of the site.

How Sitt did it, shows up with private security and strong arms people.

Not saying Sitt didnt have a legal case to take possession of the place, but there is a legal way of doing it.
