If you noticed, they have a different crew there dismantling the rides. Maybe they are the crew from the Park that bought them. If you remember there was an article that someone posted awhile ago where she said that she wasn't going to pay for cranes to take apart the Tower so she was probably going to leave it there. So someone is paying for them.  Undecided

stop with the conspiracy theories.  The crew working on taking down the rocket was a hired firm that deals with riggings and such.  They had several trucks on site saying who they work for.

Anyone know the status of the rocket now that it's down?

The fact that they took it down in one piece could be a good sign....  Does anyone know if someone has taken it?  Is it being sent off somewhere also in one piece?    If it was going for scrap, wouldn't they just cut it apart up on the roof rather than rent a big crane to take it gently down?

Don't worry! The Rocket will not be scrapped! It will be moved to a storage facility very soon.  One reason it was taken off the roof today was the crane was there.

As for the Rocket's new home, an announcement will be made when all of the pending details are finalized. The Coney Island History Project received interesting proposals from groups and individuals in NYC, NY State, neighboring states, and even an amusement park in Pakistan! But we really want to keep the Rocket in Coney Island. Let's hope and pray it happens..

Charles Denson, director of the Coney Island History Project says his group is currently in "serious negotiations" with a group that will move the rocket to a new Coney location. "It looks like it [might] be staying. It's a survivor, and it'll keep the Astroland name alive. It's a time capsule; everything inside is absolutely preserved."

All I'm saying is that repeatedly you show up on this board, naysaying and calling off any sense of hope or aspiration some of the long-term members here decide to embrace.  It's insulting, discouraging, and downright low.  Of course all of us have a right to say what we please on this board, but to be as cold as that serves no constructive purpose.

I see no reason not to allow people to have a sense of hope - simple as that.

Yes, we know, everyone reads the posts but it doesnt stop you from repeating yourself over and over again. We see whats going on, everyone knows whats happening - but why do you have such a desire to keep rubbing salt in such deep wounds? Can you offer anything else but "It's over". Anything new to add?
