Water Flume being taken down
Mar 15th, 2009, 4:15pm

Taking a walk along surf, the sounds of power equipment again was being heard in Coney, but could this be another ride operator getting ready for summer?

Sadly. no, it was Sitt workers taking down the tracks (or whatever you want to call them) of the flume.

Photos to follow

I checked out the DOB website, and no fillings for demo work was done, but his application for a temp tent on the Sittland East has been turned down

I wouldn't be surprised if the Astrotower is the next thing that they dismantle.  They have no need to keep that either!!! Sad

Coneylover,it is very hard to take down an observation tower when you have rides and landmarks around it. Anyways, I hope it will stay in Coney as it was my sister's favorite ride.

You cant take down the tower (The Astortower was owned and operated by Carol Albert and family) with the use of saws and crow bars, you need a tall construction crane, which even if Sitt doesnt bother with the proper permits, the crane operator will insist on the proper permits, as there has been a rash of construction crane accidents and doesnt want to loose his permit.

During the  week I viewed the water flume from the Q train, doesn't look like they accomplished much.  From the looks of the hangers in your photos and when I walked by there, looks like a lot of bolts need to be taken out to release the water bed.  Lots of manual labor to unscrew all those bolts.

Maybe they stopped dismantling it because since the Circus deal didn't go through they don't have anyone else going there and there is no need to take it down . Undecided

Sunday , March 29, 2009 - They are dismantling the water flume, using acetylene cutters instead of manually unscrewing the nuts and bolts.  Those bolts must be rusted tight.  They have completed the bottom front run, but still is very time consuming.
