The building with the warriors spray painted on the front has been gone for about 10 years or more.

Luna Park has been gone since about the end of WW2, even before The Warriors time.  Its a housing project now.

The large mural of The Warriors which was by Astroland has been gone for about 2 or 3 years.

When I get home, I have some screen shots from the movie and what they now look like on a website, you should find it interesting.

Very interesting!  The building behind the Himalaya on the Bowery was the Geneas building.  You can confirm this on page 185 of Coney Island Lost and Found.  The street was Henderson's Walk. The location of the Himalaya in that pic should be where the Tornado was. This must have been sometime in 1978, since the Tornado was gone, but the Jumbo Jet still had not been moved there from Kaufman's Steeplechase.  (in fact, someone correct me if I'm wrong, I believe the Jumbo Jet moved on to the Geneas bldg. site after the building burned and was demolished.)   Check with Thor Hater or Egulvision, they would know for sure.

The final picture really has me confused.  It sure does look like the Cyclone's boardwalk end, but the fence with all the overgrowth is what is throwing me off,It looks like the Thunderbolt area did in the late 80's and early-mid 90's. However, back when Warriors was filmed, the Thunderbolt was still in operation and was very well maintained. The overgrowth didn't come around till the mid-late 80's.

The only thing I could think of is that it is indeed the boardwalk end of the Cyclone, and during that particular period in time the area of Astroland ajacent to the bathrooms under G&P's had a nasty fence with overgrowth, but that seems very out of character for Astroland, so I really can't figure it out.

The final beach scene in The Warriors was shot on the beach in California and that is why you can't match it up with Coney!

Thanks.  Never thought about it.  But it does make sense as you dont see any landmarks in the shot.

Its a shame, they filmed scenes on the Boardwalk and throughout the city, why didnt they film that scene on our beach?   Rhetorical question Smiley

Maybe they had to reshoot the end, and due to budgetary constraints shot it out there.

That shot of the Cyclone with the overgrown fence is still a mystery.

I've always heard that the final beach scene was shot at Fort Tilden in Queens which is between Riis Park and Breezy Point. I used to fish there with a permit years ago and it sure looks like it.

according to imdb.com here are the filming locations.

72nd St. IRT Station, 72nd and Broadway, New York City, New York, USA

96th Street IRT Subway Station, Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA

Central Park, Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA

Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA

Hoyt-Schermerhorn Street Subway Station, Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA
(interior of '96th St. Station')

Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA

New York City, New York, USA

Riverside Park, Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA

I work with a friend who was a extra, and said he was filmed at the big gang get together at Riverside Park, even though in the movie, it took place in the bronx.  Others who know the subway system very well, said the parts, and often other filming takes place at the unused portions of Hoyt-Schermerhorn on the g/a/c lines.

They also filmed 14 st station where the 4.5.6 and n,r,l trains are, but it isnt listed.

Ah good old imdb...The 96 st station was actually 72nd st. They slapped a 96st sign on the 72nd and Broadway entrance. Interior was Hoyt Schermerhorn.

The extras on the directors cut of The Warriors has some great info on locations. Interestingly enough they never make any mention of the final beach scene location. The only clue is when Deborah Van Valkenburgh (Mercy) tells a story about walking down the beach and I'm paraphrasing that they walked so long it felt like she was walking back to Manhattan.

the best i ever heard were people who saw the ending of the beast from 20,000 fathoms, who swear they saw Lee Van Cleef climb the Cyclone at the end, when it was filmed at Pacific Ocean Park, Santa Monica, California Smiley
