Sitt-struction
Apr 03rd, 2009, 7:13pm

Took a walk to Sittland East, figure to capture some interesting photos of the Observation tower half hidden in the fog.  I wish the fog was thicker.

Spread out throughout the land were pieces of the Water Flume.  A bunch of supports here.  A pump there, tracks all over the place.  The only thing left standing was the supports for the big hill.

I have seen Sitt-struction first hand over the years, the only thing that came close to this god awful site was the Mini-golf course torn up and heaped in odd angles.

With the Cylcome proudly presenting the American Flag over the ticket booth, Sitt proudly presents this across the street.

Sitt-struction=sickening.

Will post photos, but who really wants to see a horrific sight like this anyway?

Bruce

P.S. there was a reporter from 1010 WINS talking to someone looking through the gates.

P.S.S.  There are large gaping holes in the side of the structure that used to house Dante's Inferno, so I guess that goes next.

It's a nightmare landscape, pieces of the flume in all corners.  It's been foggy the last two days, then it rained heavy about 5:30, then the sun came out full and bright for about twenty minutes.  Fog rolled back in to hide the destruction field.

Hope they have it cleaned up by Sunday and I hope they're not working on Sunday.

Forecast calls for rain and fog again on Saturday and Sunday morning sun shining bright on the Cyclone.

Lets see, i submit paperwork to the DOB to dismantle the Water Flume, then I dismantle it, once I get approval to do so.  But hey, I am Joe Sitt, the laws dont apply to me.
Paperwork posted showing a issue date of 3/24.

photo I took on 3/15, showing workers dismantling it.

This makes me run out and buy Utz Potato Chips, doesnt it?  I enjoy a nice potato chip seeing this kind of scene.

Sitt-struction continues.

Here's a pic of the disassembled water flume that was on the NBC site the other day. They used it to illustrate a short piece about the city's $105 million offer. I wouldn't be surprised to see more pix like this and of the Sitt-struction site on Stillwell on the news this weekend. But I hope they show some people having fun in Coney as well.

thanks for posting that.. thats my photo.  Its so nice of NBC to lift a photo from the internet and post it without credit.  I just posted a comment.

Bruce, I didn't realize it was your photo.  Maybe you should put your signature on all your photos really big. That's what Norman does.  Like this..http://www.flickr.com/photos/nbphotoflash/2814824668/in/pool-coneyislandisalivea...

You should contact NBC and get a credit.   A few weeks ago I saw a photo that looked really familiar in a NY Press article about Coney.  I realized it was one of Kevin's pix that I'd seen before, so I contacted him

Why would someone buy it? Most of the parts are rusty. They will probably scrap it.

I don't think the caption refers to how much the flume parts would cost, but Coney Island. But it doesn't really make sense as caption for that photo either. The article is a mashup

No need to have such a negative take on the matter - there is plenty of life left in the Flume, should someone give it a chance.

The fact that the parts are being numbered is a positive sign - entire buildings have been moved and re-assembled thanks to this method.  Flat-out scrapping wouldn't require the effort of numbering individual pieces.

And rust isn't the end of the world in all cases.  Hell, I'm currently restoring a 1963 Murray bicycle that has seen more than its share of rust - with the help of copper wool and elbow grease, the chrome has been freed up to shine again.  I'm sure the Flume has more of it, but the rust can be addressed.

The parts arent rusty.  I guess Sitt either hopes to find a buyer or has one.
