Acep Hale: Chicanery, Counting, and Cee-lo: Memory and Simulation in Service to Skulduggery

Dates:
Tuesday, April 29, 2014 - 7:30pm

Magicians, dice hustlers, and card counters must invest themselves heavily into the simulation of naturalness to achieve their goals. Though end results for each may be different, each craft relies upon a series of techniques and tools to not misdirect attention, but instead direct attention where and when they want it.

To misdirect attention would in itself draw attention to the fact that something was afoot, so instead the aim of each is to subtly direct onlooker's attention while maintaining the illusion that everything is happening naturally.

I would like to show through discussion and practical application how each of these crafts intersect and depart not only from one another, but also across age, geographical, and cultural boundaries.
