Dr. Lucky (aka Lynn Sally) is a performer, writer, and scholar of popular culture. Her first book explored turn-of-the-twentieth century amusement parks at Coney Island. Her recent book, Neo-Burlesque: Striptease as Transformation (Rutgers University Press), is a "thorough exploration” (Dita Von Teese) of the early neo-burlesque revival in New York City. This “dazzling study” (Linda Mizejewski) is a “smart, feminist tour de force… A must read for anybody interested in dance, art, and sexy fun” (Annie Sprinkle & Beth Stephens).
For this "Ask the Expert Series" lecture, Dr. Lucky will discuss the Miss Coney Island Pageant as a parody of beauty pageants, and parodic pageantry as a defining characteristic of neo-burlesque. She will be joined by Bambi the Mermaid, the creator of the Miss Coney Island Pageant.
Ticket sales end on Wednesday, March 2nd at 5pm, ET.
A Zoom link to join us online, will be emailed day of the event, between 5pm-6:30pm.
