George Shea, co-founder of Major League Eating and chief executive officer of Shea Communications, has more than 30 years of experience leading business-to-business and consumer public relations efforts in New York City. Before founding Shea Communications in 1997, George represented municipal labor unions, elected officials and election campaigns. Under Shea Communications he focused on live events, real estate and urban planning, with a specialty in culture, events and crisis management.
Beginning in 1991, he developed the Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog-Eating Contest, which generates billions of media impressions and which is aired live on ESPN. He serves as host of the event and has been acknowledged for his creativity and media expertise by The New Yorker, The New York Times, Time Magazine, Atlantic Magazine and numerous other media outlets. He has long-term relationships with New York City media and business leaders, and is known for his ability to develop creative and innovative media strategy to support client initiatives.
George will give us a behind the scenes peek at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest and the world of competitive eating.
