Book Reading and Signing: The Brooklyn Theatre Index Volume III with Author Cezar Del Valle

Saturday, January 10, 2015 - 2:00pm

Join us for an illustrated talk by Cezar Del Valle, author of the Brooklyn Theatre Index Volume III. In this lively presentation, the author explores a forgotten aspect of Coney Island history--theatre. The raucous streets and alleyways once crowded with concert saloons, vaudeville houses and early film shows. The Island served as a training ground for a generation of entertainers, where Cary Grant walked on stilts, Harpo Marx made his stage debut, Clara Bow sliced rolls and the six-year-old Buster Keaton brought out the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.

Talk is included with Admission to the Coney Island Museum. Admission is $5 for Adults, $3 for Seniors, Kids (under 12) and residents of  Zip Code 11224. Free for Members of Coney Island USA. After the talk, join us for a book signing downstairs in the gift shop.

An artist and freelance writer, Cezar Del Valle has also been actively involved in the theatre for almost forty years and has written numerous articles on theatre history.

His artwork has been exhibited at galleries, museums and art centers throughout the United States. It is part of the permanent collection of the Tampa Museum, the Kinsey Institute, and others.

Except for an appearance in an experimental Dutch short (filmed at Coney Island), Del Valle’s involvement with the theatre has been largely behind the scenes.  He has been a concert promoter, an American agent for British musicians, worked in public relations, and managed numerous movie houses in their final years of operation.

Amusing the Zillion review and Travalanche review of The Brooklyn Theatre Index Volume III.

Additional reviews of the Index in general:

Since 1996, he has conducted a series of popular theatre walks and talks. Tuesday Evening Hour, an artist non-profit slide-show program found Del Valle to be “versatile and effective in his well-crafted presentations.”
