Bio:
Peter Stampfel was born in Wauwautosa, Wisconsin, October 29, 1938, and raised in Milwaukee. He discovered bohemia, folk music, and the 5-string banjo at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, which subsequently expelled him in 1958. He arrived in New York City October of 1959, and basically stayed there, forming the Holy Modal Rounders in May of 1963.

The Rounders joined the Fugs in late 1964 and the two Rounders, Peter and Steve Weber, broke up July 1965, re-forming as a rock band in spring 1968 with drummer Sam Shepard. By 1972 Sam had left the Rounders. Six of the seven Rounders moved to Portland, Oregon but Peter remained in New York, forming the Unholy Modal Rounders (1975/77), and the Bottlecaps (1982/91).

He won a Grammy in 1997 for his part in writing liner notes for the Harry Smith Anthology reissue. He's still recording and performing as the Jeffrey Lewis & Peter Stampfel Band, The Ether Frolic Mob with his daughters Zoë and Lily and four others, and with Shelley Hirsch as the Atomic Meta-Pagans. His lifetime goal of having as much fun playing music as Little Richard seemed to be having in 1956, has been achieved.

All ticket sales are non-refundable and WILL CALL only to be picked up night of performance, at our box office at 1208 Surf Avenue. TICKETS WILL NOT SHIP. There are no extra service fees for online purchase.
