Ethan Minsker & Delphine Le Goff
Artist Statement – Ethan Minsker
As an artist, filmmaker, and founding member of the Antagonist Art Movement, my work has always lived on the edge—where the beautiful and the bizarre collide. I explore identity, contradiction, and emotional resilience through handmade processes, often using materials that embrace imperfection. Papier-mâché has long been my medium of choice: raw, accessible. I create my work using only trash and discarded materials that come through my own household, in an effort to reduce my personal impact on landfills and turn waste into something meaningful.
The current show at the Coney Island Museum’s Freak Bar features a selection of my papier-mâché sculptures from the past decade, drawing from several ongoing series. These works reflect my evolving interest in character, mythology, and the absurdity of human nature.
The newest series, Personality Crisis, is still in development. For this show, I’m presenting four prototypes—modular figures with interchangeable heads, torsos, and legs. The idea is to explore fragmented identity through form and play, creating endless possibilities for recombination and self-reflection.
