Join us in the Coney Island Museum for Storytelling by the Seashore, as part of the nationwide Fall of Freedom movement.
Fall of Freedom is an urgent call to the arts community to unite in defiance of authoritarian forces sweeping the nation. Our Democracy is under attack. Threats to free expression are rising. Dissent is being criminalized. Institutions and media have been recast as mouthpieces of propaganda.
And speaking of mouthpieces, we have assembled New York City's best storytellers to regale us with tales of struggle, resistance, censorship and freedom!
Featuring:
Kendra Cunninngham
Cyndi Freeman
Calvin Cato
Irene Bremis
Danny Fallon
Hosted by Jess Wood
About the Storytellers:
Kendra Cunningham was born and raised in Boston, discovered her passion for comedy at an early age. Growing up in a bustling urban environment known for its vibrant culture and sense of humor, Kendra honed her comedic sensibilities from the colorful characters and everyday absurdities that surrounded her. During her formative years, Kendra developed a quick wit and a knack for storytelling. Her observational humor often drew inspiration from her experiences navigating life in Boston, providing a unique perspective that would later define her comedic style.
Cyndi Freeman is a two-time NY Fringe Festival award-winning solo performer. Her one woman shows have been presented in New York, Boston, Amsterdam, Ireland, The UK, and Fringe Festivals in Edinburgh and throughout North America. As a storyteller, her credits include The Moth, RISK!, The Story Collider and PBS’s Stories from The Stage.
Calvin Cato has been named one of Time Out New York’s LGBTQ Comics of Color to Watch Out For. He has dazzled audiences around the world. His on-air and radio appearances include Oxygen, Netflix, Sirius XM, RISK!, WIRED Magazine, and an unaired pilot for Vice Media called Emergency Black Meeting. His comedy has been featured in numerous festivals and events including San Francisco Sketchfest, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Gotham Storytelling Festival, Brooklyn Pride, and FlameCon. In early 2021, Calvin was published in Kweendom, an anthology of essays by queer comedians and entertainers.
Irene Bremis is a seasoned stand-up comedian, writer, actress, and radio personality who headlines clubs/venues Nationwide. She was also a contributing writer for Rachel Dratch’s Late Night Snack on Tru TV and was featured in a sketch for The Shorty Awards, starring Alec Baldwin & Taylor Swift.
Danny Fallon is a Comedian, Actor, and Writer based out of New York City. In December 2022, he released his debut stand up special on Youtube titled “My Ex Drug Dealer” and then moved to New York City where things have gotten progressively worse for him in all facets, but… You can catch him performing stand up throughout the country (mostly untrue now) and NYC (more true) or check out some of his new sketches on his YouTube channel. He is currently working on a memoir of sorts titled “an American Summer.”
Jess Wood was Born to Hippies, Raised by Gangs and the first white girl to grace HBO’s Def Comedy Jam, Jess is a funny sex positive comic storyteller. Taking her personal stories and infusing them with humor+ authenticity. Unique, silly, and sometimes sad, Jess is honest and open and always has a good time. Her characters are also guaranteed to brighten your day (or make ya clutch your pearls!)
About the Fall of Freedom:

Across the country, actions, activations, and events will unfold, sparked by arts communities and the public. These are self-initiated efforts, and it’s up to us and our communities to shape what they look like, making this only the beginning of what’s to come.
